Life after Kobe Bryant!!?

What will the NBA like after Kobe retires.

When Michael Jordan retired half the fans dissipated and NBA TV ratings went to record lows. The NBA was desperate for new stars to take his position. Every shoe company has been looking for the next MJ. The Bulls dynasty ended and the eastern conference has still to this day been negatively affected.

What do you think will happen to the NBA after Kobe retires?

It's funny how you seem to imply that Kobe had the same effect on the NBA and the rest of the world as Michael Jordan. MJ brought excitement to the NBA and LED his team to 6 titles. On the contrary to what many Jordan bashers may say about Scottie Pippen, the Bulls were Jordan's team NOT Pippens. Kobe hasn't proven that he can win a title (or get out of the first round) without a dominant big men who could get him high percentage shots by scoring in the paint or play intimidating defense and blocking shots. First, Kobe had Shaq and now he has Gasol and Bynum (which is double the trouble). Who did MJ have that was even equivalent on his 6 championship teams? Horace Grant? Dennis Rodman? Please, not even close. So to say that Kobe dominated this era like MJ did during the 1990's is like comparing diamond to ziamond. You can never beat the original.

The truth of the matter is, the NBA has already crowned it's next Era's Franchise Player. His name is LeBron James and even though, Kobe supporters tend to act like he doesn't exist, he will eventually break all of Kobe's records. The only knock on King James right now is, he doesn't have an MVP award or championships on his resume but the last time I checked, Kobe doesn't have an MVP award either. Kobe also doesn't have a championship that wasn't given to him by Shaq who is arguably, the most dominant player of this decade. Another dominant player of this era and Shaq's nemesis, Tim Duncan has already said to LeBron James himself after last year's NBA Finals. Timmy said, "The league will be yours pretty soon." and that holds more weight than any NBA critic's opinion on this forum. Please do not mention Kobe Bryant's name in the same sentence as Michael Jordan. It is an insult to the NBA Legends and Hall of Famers everywhere.

good question, who knows, I myself am a Kobe Bryant FAN. People call Kobe a ball hog, um, if Kobe is a ball hog, what are Chris Paul and Lebron James? Last I checked Lebron was the highest scoring player on his team, you have to be a BALL HOG in order to get that huh? I suppose so. Anyway, Kobe is a great player and the league will HEAVILY miss him. Simply because the dude is a GREAT! People are gonna miss seeing him play and I know for one, I will. Dude to me is second best to ever play in the NBA behind Magic Johnson. Kobe is a steller performer, people can claim they hate him, but the only reason they "hate" him is because they hate his skill. They hate the fact that he is better then anybody in the entire league and that he is probably the closest that the league will get to the "oh so great" Michael Jordan(puh LEEEZ) People can go on and knock him, but I DARE people to get in an arguement with me about Kobe. To the takers, you set yourself up for pure humiliation
If Lebron is the face of the NBA than why is Kobe leading in jersey sales Lebron isnt even top 4 in sales also the Bulls fell apart because they lsot everyone not just Jordan and how did tat affect the East negitively you meant to tell me that the east is this bad because Jordan retired give me a break if anything they would have been happy that they had a chance to win when Kobe retires there will be other stars but none on the level he was on
It depends...

If Kobe decides to retire this year, in his prime (like MJ did in 1993) of course people will feel this.

If he decides to retire after some years (having some accomplishments or not) there will be new faces in the NBA and that would be less felt as a loss. (MJ retirement in 1999 and 200x).
DAMN. i dont know. he was the reason i started watching ball. it would be boring for me, cos watching a laker team without number24 is like watching a nfl game without a quaterback. they cant be another kobe bryant, people will realize it wen he goes. the nba will have dark times when he retires.
Lebron and Dwade are going to carry the NBA the rest of the way.
No one would miss him other then the Kobe lovers. How would the Western Conference be affected? I suppose the Spurs would win, but then again how is that different. As hard as it is for the Kobe lovers to take. Kobe is not the modern version of MJ. He is the modern version of George Gervin. A great player that will be missed by his team only.
Kobe retiring won't have nearly the impact on the NBA that Jordan's retiring had. Kobe hasn't revolutionized the way the game is played or the way products are endorsed like Jordan did and quite honestly Jordan was easier to "like" than Kobe for the general public because Jordan wasn't a relative recluse like Kobe is. Everyone didn't love Jordan, but I think far more people liked him as a person than like Kobe as a person today.

Kobe threw away his chance to be the main figurehead for the NBA when he got in trouble for "nearly raping" that girl in Colorado. He may have been acquitted of a crime, but he still got caught doing something really bad and he's still living it down to this day - look how many companies dropped him like a hot potato as soon as the news came out that he was being tried for rape....even before he was convicted or acquitted.
no more laker fans
The world will end and we will all turn to dust. Without Kobe there is no purpose.
When Kobe is retired, there won't be any NBA fans, so that proves Kobe %26gt; M.J. R u happy?
I think the rating will go back up. Real NBA fans are getting tired of watching a Ball-Hog play!
I don't think it'll impact the league the way M.J.'s retirement did, but it will have some effect. Like him or hate him, Kobe is the most talked about, watched, debated, and exciting player in the NBA. Even here on Yahoo, every day there are countless times his name comes up. Haters can whine and moan all day about him, but you cannot deny his abilities and skill, the excitement he brings to a game. Sure, the NBA will go on, but there will be a drop in the excitement of the season, the anticipation of seeing highlights of Kobe's latest on court victim.

The poor jealous souls who hate will be lost when he retires. Why do they hate him so much? I'm willing to lay odds that if Kobe were wearing their team's colors, they would be the biggest fans of Kobe.

Kobe is one of the elite greats of the game, on the court. Debate it all you like, but his talent speaks for itself. Next time Kobe does a wicked crossover, splitting two dumbfounded defenders and driving for a tomahawk slam over your favorite team's center, don't hate; appreciate.

P.S. - True NBA fans can recognize and appreciate talent, no matter the team colors.
Lebron is the face of the NBA, not Kobe, so I don't think his retirement will have much effect at all. MJ was universally liked an respected, the same is not true of Kobe.
lol man, we have even better players now, Nobody really cares for kobe anyways. half the world HATES him

we have Lebron, CP3, dwight howard, brandon Roy, Amare stat, ELLIS

sooo many YOUNG players just dominating the NBA

its going to get crazzzzy

and dont mention MICHEAL and KOBE in the same sentence EVER AGAIN, he is no where NEAR jordan, there will NEVER be another jordan, EVER
TV Ratings will go up and so will the image of the league.

because people will forget about MJ and focus on the new crop (lbj, cp3, dwade, MONTA ELLIS). The only reason Kobe is so marketable is because of his resemblance to MJ (intentional on KB and NBA's behalf). As much as people love MJ, they are ready to move on to something new.

Once lebron morphs into the player he can be a (mutant freak combo of Magic and MJ) people will realize that we have never had a player like him before. Lebron is the only current player that has a prayer of surpassing MJ's legacy.
